That's iOS protecting the hardware from heat — at full brightness the LED runs hot. Lumen shows a banner when it happens and recovers automatically. Tip: 50–70% brightness runs far longer and cooler.
No. In Music Sync the microphone signal is analyzed on your device in real time to find the beat, then discarded instantly. Nothing is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere — the app makes no network requests at all.
Streaming services encrypt their audio (DRM), so no app can analyze those tracks directly. Use Music Sync — it hears whatever is playing out loud, whatever the source.
Flashing between 3 and 30 times per second can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Lumen warns on first launch and caps all flashing at 20 Hz — please stay mindful of people around you.

The app has no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, no user accounts, and makes no network connections of any kind.
Microphone. If you enable Music Sync, Lumen asks for microphone access and analyzes the audio signal on your device, in memory, solely to detect musical beats. The audio is never recorded, never stored, and never transmitted. Revoke access anytime in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
